Horrifyingly dark, unrealistically real. In just a few pages, Elie Wiesel describes the grim kingdom of night. How could humans be so evil? How can the ‘Master of the Universe’ be so cruel? How can the world be silent? These are some questions one is allowed, and at some level are demanded, to wrestle with. It’s both impressive and disheartening that such a short work can produce immense grief.
