The Andromeda Strain // Michael Crichton.

One of the key voices is not one of the named and famed characters, but the unnamed historian. Ironically, this particular and uncertified historian, with authoritative and solemn tone, exposes the follies of decorated scientists. Yet, we must not assume this historian abuses that revelatory phenomenon, “hindsight is 20/20,” for public humiliation, but rather to empathize that “Men under stress are fools, and fool themselves” (273). These well-learned and hard-worked men overlooked simple cruxes: it would be just as foolish to disregard history and fool ourselves.
